Vince Vaughn Tickets – Vaughn Comments On Film Flap
Sometimes, a film can cause an uproar before it even hits the theaters. That is the case with Vince Vaughn’s latest film project, called The Dilemma. The hullabaloo started when the trailer of the film was released, which showed Vince Vaughn’s character, Ronny Valentine, calling electric cars “gay.” The joke immediately sparked a condemnation by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which led to the joke being removed from the trailer.
The decision on whether the joke would remain in the film, though, was up to the film’s director, Ron Howard. Howard ultimately decided to keep the joke in the film, which in full context wasn’t even as bad as the trailer made it look. When defending his decision to keep it in the film, Howard wrote to the Los Angeles Times that films go beyond just entertainment to be a “provoker of thought” thanks to the creative freedom. Howard also explained that Ronny Valentine is a character with flaws just like real people.
Vaughn wasn’t behind the decision to keep the joke in the film, but that doesn’t mean that he lacks an opinion on the matter. According to Fox News, Vaughn said that he doesn’t like bullying any more than those rallying against it, but he added, “Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together. Drawing dividing lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop.” In another radio interview, he said he was glad the joke remained in the film.
According to Fox News, the joke has Hollywood taking sides. GLAAD is still standing behind its original condemnation despite the comments by Howard and Vaughn. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper also voiced his disappointment in the joke when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Many media experts weighed in on the issue, taking various sides. No matter how people feel about the joke, though, they are talking about The Dilemma, which can’t be bad for the film. The Dilemma is set to be released on Jan. 14.
