Ferguson Stands Up for husband | Q102 101.9 WKRQ-FM

Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s husband is “thrilled” the actor has become a cancer activist.

The Modern Family star’s spouse, Justin Mikita, battled with the disease at a young age.

It’s one of the reasons Jesse attended Friday night’s Stand Up to Cancer event in Los Angeles, and the star tells E! News it’s the least he can do for those who have battled with the illness.

“I think it does touch him in a lot of ways. He’s thrilled that I’m here and I’m definitely representing him,” Jesse said in a newly-released interview.

“He was diagnosed when he was 13 and that’s sort of an age when you don’t really realize what’s going on. He goes in once a year for his check-up to make sure he’s still cancer free so he’s always reminded of it,” Jesse explained.

The Stand Up to Cancer telethon was attended by a host of stars, including Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Stiller, Danny McBride, Dane Cook and Pierce Brosnan, among others.

Ariana Grande, The Who, Dave Matthews and Jennifer Hudson were among performers, the latter star joining forces with Lupe Fiasco and Common to entertain viewers with their new track, Remission.

E! reports the event raised more than $109 million for the organization.

“When we all stand together, cancer doesn’t stand a chance,” executive producer Gwyneth Paltrow stated after the event. “That sense of community is what the telecast is all about.”
